Kawasaki used-boat buyer's guide

What Kawasaki is on the used market

Kawasaki invented the personal watercraft — Jet Ski is its trademark — and its 14,700 registered hulls in our sample are almost entirely PWC. The modern lineup splits into the Ultra series (the supercharged 310 hp flagships and naturally aspirated LX tourers) and the STX value line, plus the stand-up SX-R that revived the original category.

Kawasaki trades at a consistent discount to equivalent Sea-Doo and Yamaha models on the used market — partly dealer-network size, partly feature cadence. For a buyer that discount is the headline: the engineering underneath is robust, and you're paying less for comparable hardware.

Known issues to inspect

Supercharged Ultras (250X/260X/300X/310 series) are maintenance-intensive flagships: verify supercharger service and valve-clearance checks in writing, and budget seriously if the file is empty — these engines punish deferred maintenance harder than their rivals. The naturally aspirated STX and Ultra LX, by contrast, are among the most durable PWC powertrains ever built and the segment's low-risk used buy.

Universal PWC checks apply: wear ring and impeller condition, evidence of salt use without flushing, hour meter verified against a dealer diagnostic pull, and hull/ride-plate damage from trailer or beach use. On older two-stroke Jet Skis, treat the engine as a consumable and price accordingly.

Resale and value character

The brand discount follows the machine at exit, so Kawasaki resale is unspectacular but stable — you give back the same relative discount you captured buying. The liquid sweet spot is a 3–6 year old STX or Ultra LX with under 100 documented hours: cheap to buy, cheap to run, easy to sell. Supercharged flagships depreciate fastest and demand full documentation to move at all.
